Dystopian Car Battle Table - 3 - 76 Gas Station

Nearby the Hyatt Regency is a 76 Gas Station. Interesting enough there are 76 gas stations on both Broadway and Millbrae Ave. The station is in three parts; the convenience store, pump islands and the pricing sign. All crafted out of plastic sheet. If you eyes caught those bright orange posts, they are base ten blocks. See your local math educator for details.

Pump It

Fuel nozzle creatively crafted from a plastic goat. Was sure to enjoy the Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock first.

Paint Time

White, red, black, and grey all go into the mix until done. Pigments added too for dusty effects.

Dystopian Car Battle Table - 2 - Pieces and Parts

Every good terrain board has smaller bits and bobs that join the larger pieces.

  Signs

Speed limit and Highway 101 signs.

Burlingame Broadway Arch Sign

Based on a historic arch in town. This helps identify the location. Sign is made from plastic sheet. Poles are wooden dowels that can be removed for storage.

Billboard

While not site accurate, thought it would be fun to have an advertising billboard. Built from various stir sticks it features a removable graphic panel with a couple different options. Nukem and Sunblock 5000 from the RoboCop movie.

Highway Sign

Made from plastic. Removable poles are wooden dowels. Signs are ink jet prints glued on.

Dystopian Car Battle Table - 1 - Highway & Overpass

This documents the building of a large table layout for 20mm car combat games. Specifically made for the Axles and Alloys rule set. Check out the free rules download if you are interested. It could be used for other systems such as Gaslands.

The design of the board is to represent the location of the KublaCon gaming convention in Burlingame, CA. Build features include: section of Highway 101, an overpass, gas station, Burlingame arch sign, and the location of KublaCon, the Hyatt hotel.

Highway 101

The highway roads are built out of vinyl tile, Crescendo French Grey 12x12.They have textured finish that worked well to simulate roads without much effort. They were just cut to shape and edges roughed up to look like broken up roads. Then road striping added to finish up.

Overpass

Built from pink foam and some PVC pipe. Graffiti is ink jet printed artwork glued on. The overpass is a little scaled up so that it would still work with 28mm miniatures, since that is the bulk of games we play use. Not much to say. Hot glue to get things together followed by paint.

Venice Wargaming Board - Buildings

Enjoy a photo collection of buildings for the Venice table.

For the construction I mainly used foamcore for the walls. Mounted all buildings on 3mm PVC sheet. Roof is Plastruct Spanish tile roofing. Stir sticks for most the flooring. Some Mantic Town Crate furniture. Most pieces are multi storied with stairs or ladders up. I incorporated some artwork into the pieces in the form of posters and hung paintings.
